Accelerated Reader, or AR, is a program in which students read books and take quizzes, which earn them points. The number of points assigned to a book depends on the book level and difficulty. Small picture books may only have 0.5 points, for example, and Harry Potter books may have 7.0 points. Each semester, students will be given a predetermined goal for points, and if they reach that number by semesters end, they will be treated to numerous prizes, including free books, popcorn/movie parties, among others. This program is introduced this year to familiarize students with the AR process, which will follow them well into middle school.
If you are wondering how many points a book is, please check the list on the EHE library webpage for Renaissance Place. Thank you for supporting your child with AR. Let's read....then party!
