How To Model Reading
Modeling reading is important because your child will pick up on what you do.  If you never read, your child will wonder why they should.  If you always read, your child will wonder what's so exciting about reading.  See the difference?
So, how can you model reading.  First of all, use every opportunity when you read to bring your child into it.  Mail, newspapers, games; anything to read, get your child involved.  Read a little to your child, and have him/her read a little back.  Or, read a neat article with your child.  There is usually a section in the newspaper geared for children, especially in big city newspapers.  You can even go so far as to, when you're in a restaurant, humble yourself, and ask what something is on a menu, to model how to ask what something is, and (more importantly) show that it is ok to ask (even if you know what it is).
